  • Kulefu Camp – Our View

We struggle with Kulefu simply due to the fact that the Lower Zambezi is known for its privately run camps, or small un-commercial companies. Sanctuary lodges is owned by A&K and so certainly goes against the grain for what makes the Lower Zambezi so famous. However having said all that, the quality of the lodge is as to be expected from Sanctuary lodges and the game viewing area is good. Ultimately we would recommend Puku to older clients, wanting an A&K approach to safari as opposed to the bush camp approach of the other Lower Zambezi companies.

    More about Kulefu

Deep in the game-rich Lower Zambezi National Park, there is a secluded, intimate safari camp settled comfortably in the deep shade of tall riverine trees. Profoundly peaceful, eco-friendly and well appointed,
the camp overlooks one of the permanent channels of the legendary Zambezi River. Enjoy the beautiful riverbank setting at Kulefu ‘the faraway place’, which offers excellent game viewing opportunities, as the wildlife is concentrated in the land corridor between the steep escarpment and the river.

The camp offers seven spacious chalets (maximum 12 guests) with twin or double beds, mosquito nets, ensuite facilities and tranquil view of the Zambezi River. The central lounge and dining area are housed in two magnificent Bedouin style tents, giving an open air feel and harmonising with the surrounding environment. Teak furniture and natural fabrics add an authentic and luxurious feel to this camp. There is a refreshing swimming pool and teak deck overlooking the river. Guests can also sit around an evening fire on the banks of the river.

Batteries can be charged by generator and lights in the evening are supplied by 220 volt inverter. Traditional paraffin lamps illuminate pathways and tent entrances.

With regards to game viewing, animals include elephants, lion, hippo, wild dog, aardvark, serval, honey badger and leopard. Game Drives are professionally guided with game viewing at day and at night done in open 4x4 vehicles. Game walks are conducted by a professional guide and an armed national parks scout. There are also exciting motorised boat excursions with fantastic fishing opportunities. Canoeing excursions are also possible. Excellent fishing opportunities are offered year round but the best months are Apr / May and
    Sep / Nov.
