  • Chamilandu – Our View

As with so many of the Luangwa camps, Chamilandu is a wonderfully authentic bush camp; a style of property so uncommon in Africa. We recommend people start with Chamilandu and then continue to one of the Bushcamp Companies trails camps, where only walking is permitted. By designing the trips this way, Chamilandu is viewed as a less adventurous option. But be under no misconception, this is a rustic, adventurous camp. We love it.

    More about Chamilandu

Chamilandu Camp sits high the banks above a series of oxbow lagoons. Raised high on stilts, the four en-suite rooms here have their own raised veranda from which to view the resident game and enjoy the tranquillity of the lagoon below. The large bedrooms are open-fronted and furnished with solid, wrought-iron furniture and vibrant linen. Meals are enjoyed together under thatch in the central area. The camp offers both morning and evening walks and combinations of day and night game drives

Overlooking the Nchendeni Hills, Chamilandu is a game drive from the entrance to the park and therefore enjoys a quiet, remote location on the edge of the Luangwa River. Magnificent ox-bow lagoons set the scene for this camp.

The camp is designed to operate as one of the Bushcamp companies main camps, and not just a walking focussed bush camp. The rooms however are open fronted and have a wonderfully adventurous air.

Guest numbers are limited to 6, staying in 3 raised chalets 10ft above the ground and offer breathtaking views over the lagoons and the Luangwa river. Four-poster beds and rooms furnished with a blend of wrought iron and creams are relaxing and indulgent.

You are unlikely to see any other tourists while at Chamilandu and can enjoy early morning walks with an armed scout and expert guide, before enjoying brunch and a relax in the afternoon.
